The Dodoth is a tribe among the Karimojong ethnic group. They are located in northeast Uganda, bordering Kenya in the east and South Sudan in the south. They are fierce warriors.
They have lived in Uganda for several centuries, when they migrated from Ethiopia.
They consider cattle as royalty and all men's success and position is measured by livestock. Men who don't have much livestock engage in violent cattle raids among neighbors. The acquisition of modern firearms has worsened the raids. There are many widows due to death in raids.
There social status is communal. They stay in manyatas, or well-fenced huts made of wood. The manyata has several hundreds of inhabitants.
Men normally move around looking for pasture and water, leaving women in manyatas.
They hold traditional beliefs. They believe in a god named Akuj and in mysterious powers, spiritual beings and divinations.
